HVAC Services in Boca Raton: How to Choose the Right One
Direct Cooling provides HVAC services across Boca Raton and nearby cities: AC repair and 24/7 emergency repair, installation and replacement, maintenance and membership, heat pumps, mini splits, ductwork, indoor air quality and commercial rooftop units. Use this guide to match what your system is doing to the right service, or call or text (561) 210-7605 and we will point you there.
Which HVAC Service Do I Need? Match the Symptom to the Service
You do not need to know HVAC vocabulary to get the right help. Find the row that sounds like your situation; the middle column links to the page that explains the fix in detail.
| If your system is | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Running but blowing warm air, short-cycling or leaking water | AC repair | Usually a diagnosable fault: a failed capacitor, a clogged drain, a leak or a frozen coil. |
| Down at night, on a weekend, or with someone heat-sensitive at home | Emergency AC repair | Dispatch is monitored 24/7 by call or text at (561) 210-7605. |
| Old, breaking down repeatedly, or needing refrigerant every summer | AC replacement | Age, condition and sizing decide repair versus replace. |
| Missing: new construction, an addition, or a home without central air | AC installation | New systems sized for the home, with American Standard and Rheem options. |
| Working fine and you want it to stay that way | AC maintenance or the membership plan | Two tune-ups a year; members add 10% off repairs and refrigerant. |
| Cooling most rooms but leaving one or two hot | Ductwork | Leaky or undersized ducts are a common cause of uneven rooms. |
| Needed in a garage, addition or room with no ducts | Mini splits | A ductless system cools one zone without new ductwork. |
| Heating with resistance strips on cool mornings | Heat pumps | A heat pump heats by moving heat rather than making it with strips. |
| Leaving the house dusty, stuffy or smelling musty | Indoor air quality | Filtration, UV and air freshening options, matched to your system. |
| Growing mold or slime on the indoor coil | UV light purification | Coil-mounted UV targets microbial growth on the coil surface. |
| On the roof of a store, office or warehouse | Commercial HVAC | Rooftop unit installation, repair and maintenance. |
| Due for new equipment and you are comparing brands | American Standard or Rheem | We are an American Standard Customer Care Dealer and a Rheem Pro Partner. |
| Running on R-410A, and someone said it must be replaced | Refrigerant changes guide | EPA says existing R-410A systems can still be used and repaired. |
Repair, Replace or Maintain: How We Decide With You
Every recommendation starts with a diagnosis. Frank Rey, who founded Direct Cooling in 2017 after more than 20 years in HVAC, evaluates a system's age, condition and size before recommending repair or replacement, and he trains every technician to diagnose first and sell second. In many cases a repair is enough, and we say so.
Repair makes sense when the fault is a part, not the whole platform: a capacitor, a contactor, a drain clog, a fan motor, or a refrigerant leak that can be found and fixed. Refrigerant type alone is not a reason to replace. EPA's reconsideration rule, final on May 21, 2026, removed the January 1, 2026 installation deadline for pre-2025 R-410A split equipment, and EPA says existing systems can keep being used and repaired.
Replacement enters the conversation when the same system keeps failing, when a major component fails on older equipment, or when the system was never sized right for the home. New split air conditioners sold in Florida must meet the Department of Energy's Southeast regional minimum of 14.3 SEER2 below 45,000 Btu/h (13.8 SEER2 at 45,000 Btu/h and up), in effect since January 1, 2023. The current split systems from both brands we install use R-454B, a refrigerant with a global warming potential of 465 by EPA's table, against 2,088 for R-410A.

Air Conditioning Services for Boca Raton Homes
Air conditioning is most of what Direct Cooling does, from the first diagnosis to the day a system is replaced. Each service has its own page with the details and what to expect. We service all brands and install American Standard and Rheem.
- AC repairDiagnosis and repair for any system that is not cooling, leaking water, freezing up or making new noises.
- Emergency AC repairCall or text (561) 210-7605 any time. Dispatch is monitored 24/7, and Frank still takes emergency calls himself when the team needs backup.
- AC installationNew systems for new construction, additions and homes without central air, sized for the home.
- AC replacementHonest repair-or-replace advice first, then American Standard or Rheem equipment installed under Florida certified contractor license CAC1819111.
- AC maintenanceTune-ups that clean coils, clear the condensate drain, and test electrical parts and refrigerant charge.
- Membership planTwo tune-ups a year, 10% off additional AC services and refrigerant, and priority scheduling. Plan pricing is on the membership page.
When the Comfort Problem Is Not the Air Conditioner
Hot rooms, high bills and stale air are often caused by what surrounds the air conditioner: the ducts, the type of system, or the air itself. These services fix comfort problems that a new condenser would not, and they are worth ruling in or out before replacing equipment.
- Ductwork repair, sealing and replacementENERGY STAR estimates a typical duct system loses 20 to 30 percent of the air moving through it. Florida Solar Energy Center research found a 15 percent return leak pulling from a hot attic can cut cooling capacity and efficiency by about half.
- Mini splits and ductless ACA ductless system needs only a roughly 3-inch hole in the wall and avoids the duct losses that ENERGY STAR says can exceed 30 percent. A good fit for additions, garages and rooms the main system never reaches.
- Heat pumpsA heat pump cools in summer and heats on cool mornings. The Department of Energy says heat pumps can cut heating electricity use by about 50 percent compared with resistance heat; the backup aux heat is resistance strips.
- Indoor air qualityFiltration, UV and air freshening options for dust, allergies and odors, chosen for your system and your home.
- UV light air purificationEPA's 2018 air cleaner summary finds UV works best on the coil surface itself and removes no particles, so it pairs with a good filter. ASHRAE notes there are no peer-reviewed studies proving energy savings from coil UV, so we do not promise any.

American Standard or Rheem: Comparing the Two Brands We Install
Direct Cooling is an American Standard Customer Care Dealer and a Rheem Pro Partner. Both manufacturers make solid equipment; the differences are in product lines, efficiency range and warranty structure. Here is how they compare, using each manufacturer's own published information.
| American Standard | Rheem | |
|---|---|---|
| Our dealer status | Customer Care Dealer: independent dealers hand-picked by American Standard, a program running since 1998 | Pro Partner: licensed, trained at least 10 hours a year, held to a review standard and re-evaluated every year |
| Air conditioner lines | Platinum, Gold and Silver | Endeavor Line: Prestige, Classic Plus, Classic and Select |
| Efficiency | Platinum up to 23.6 SEER2, Gold up to 17.1, Silver up to 14.3 | Varies by series and size; we quote SEER2 by model |
| Warranty | 10-year parts limited warranty when registered (5-year base); up to 12-year compressor coverage on select units | Up to 10-year parts plus a 10-year conditional unit replacement on qualifying models |
| Refrigerant in current split systems | R-454B | R-454B (Rheem mini splits may use R-32) |
| More detail | American Standard page | Rheem page |
Florida law matters here too: under Florida Statutes 559.957, a manufacturer's HVAC warranty runs its full term from installation by a licensed contractor and is not conditioned on registration, and under 559.956 it transfers to the buyer when the home is sold.

What to Have Ready When You Call or Text Direct Cooling
The more we know before we arrive, the faster the diagnosis. Text (561) 210-7605 with as much of this as you have. Dispatch is monitored 24/7, and the office answers Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, for estimates and scheduling.
- A photo of the label on the outdoor unit, showing brand, model, serial number and refrigerant type.
- What the system is doing: no air, warm air, water, ice, a new noise, a smell, or a breaker that tripped.
- What the thermostat shows, and whether it has power.
- Roughly how old the system is, and when it was last serviced.
- For commercial properties: the number of rooftop units and how we reach the roof.
- Your city or ZIP code, so we can confirm it is in our service area.
Direct Cooling has stayed small and family-run since 2017, so the technician who handled your last repair is often the one who returns for the tune-up or the duct fix.
