What Rheem Requires of a Pro Partner

Pro Partner is Rheem's contractor program. Its 2025 eligibility rules are published in Rheem's own contractor brochure, and they are measured every year:

  • At least 60 percent of the contractor's annual residential equipment purchases are Rheem products
  • A four-star customer rating on Rheem's Online Ratings and Reviews Program, from at least 30 customer review submissions per year
  • At least 10 business-wide hours of Rheem-authorized training each year, online, in class or at Rheem conferences
  • All required, current state license documentation, and good standing with the Rheem distributor
What it means for you

Why a Rheem Pro Partner Matters When You Replace an AC

If you are replacing an AC in Boca Raton and Rheem is on your short list, Pro Partner status tells you three concrete things about the installer: the company installs enough Rheem equipment to meet a purchasing threshold, it keeps a four-star rating from a minimum number of real customer reviews each year, and its team logs Rheem-authorized training hours every year. Those are Rheem's published conditions, not a marketing badge anyone can buy.

It also tells you something you should weigh honestly. A contractor that buys at least 60 percent Rheem will naturally lead with Rheem. We are also an American Standard Customer Care Dealer, so if you want both brands quoted for the same house, ask for both.

Rheem installs are part of our public permit record. City of West Palm Beach permit records for our license, CAC1819111, include a 2022 air conditioner change-out listing a Rheem 2.5-ton, 16 SEER system. We never publish a customer's address; the permit portal is public if you want to check contractor history yourself.

The state license comes first. Direct Cooling LLC holds Florida certified air conditioning contractor license CAC1819111, active through August 31, 2028, and Florida's warranty statute keys on installation by a Chapter 489 licensed contractor. Frank Rey founded the company in 2017 after more than 20 years in HVAC and trains every technician himself.

Rheem Air Conditioners by Model: SEER2, EER2 and Compressor

Rheem sells its Endeavor Line in Prestige, Classic Plus and Classic series. These are the R-454B (low-GWP) air conditioners from Rheem's 2026 comparison brochure and model brochures.

Rheem Endeavor Line low-GWP air conditioners (manufacturer figures, up to)

RA14AYClassic15.2 / 12Single-stage1.5 to 5 tons70 dBA
RA13NYClassic13.4 / 9Single-stage1.5 to 5 tons68 dBA

The RA13NY's 13.4 SEER2 is below the U.S. Department of Energy's Southeast minimums for split air conditioners (14.3 SEER2 under 45,000 Btu/h, 13.8 SEER2 at or above), so it is not an option for a Boca Raton installation. Ratings depend on the matched indoor coil or air handler.

Choosing a model

Which Rheem Air Conditioner Fits a South Florida Home

Read the EER2 column before the SEER2 column. EER2 is efficiency at a 95°F outdoor temperature, and Boca Raton spends a lot of summer afternoons near that. On Rheem's own figures the single-stage RA15AY is rated up to 13 EER2, a point higher than the two-stage RA16AY at 12, even though the RA16AY wins on seasonal SEER2. Which one saves more depends on how many hours your system runs at partial load versus flat out.

What the two-stage and variable-speed models add is longer, slower run cycles. If your house feels damp at a comfortable temperature, or rooms swing warm and cool as the system cycles, the RA16AY's low stage and the RA19AY's 40 to 100 percent inverter range give the indoor coil more time to dry the air. The RA19AY is also Rheem's EcoNet-enabled Prestige model, with built-in Bluetooth for setup and diagnostics.

Placement can decide it. Rheem rates the RA19AY as low as 54 dBA against 68 to 72 dBA for the single and two-stage units. In west Boca communities where the condenser sits a few feet from a lanai or the neighbor's wall, that difference is audible every evening.

Do not let efficiency outrun sizing. Rheem notes that proper sizing and installation are critical to rated performance. A load calculation, a duct check, and the AHRI-matched rating of the exact outdoor and indoor pairing are what turn a brochure number into a lower power bill. Our AC installation page walks through what that looks like on install day.

Controls and monitoring

EcoNet, Bluetooth and System Alerts on Rheem Equipment

Rheem's connected features differ by model, and they are worth sorting out before you choose a series. All of this comes from Rheem's Endeavor Line documents.

  • EcoNet on communicating modelsRheem's Prestige RA19AY is the EcoNet-enabled air conditioner in its 2026 lineup. With the EcoNet Smart Thermostat and app, Rheem says the homeowner gets remote control of the system and alerts sent directly to a phone or email. Rheem notes a Wi-Fi broadband connection is required.
  • An option for non-communicating modelsFor Endeavor models without EcoNet communication, Rheem pairs an ecobee Smart Thermostat Lite that works with EcoNet technology, giving app control and alerts without the communicating equipment.
  • Bluetooth for setup and serviceRheem lists built-in Bluetooth on the RA19AY, RP19AY, RD18AY, RP17AY and RD16AY. Rheem says it makes installation and service faster for the contractor, which can shorten a repair visit.
  • What alerts are good forIn a house that sits empty for part of the year, an alert that the system stopped cooling is the difference between a service call and a humidity problem. If remote monitoring matters to you, it narrows the Rheem choice to the Prestige models or a compatible thermostat.
Endeavor Line heat pumps

Rheem Heat Pumps, Including Side-Discharge Models for Tight Spaces

In Boca Raton a heat pump with an air handler cools all summer and heats the handful of cold nights without relying only on electric heat strips. The DOE Southeast minimum for a split heat pump is 14.3 SEER2 and 7.5 HSPF2.

Rheem describes its side-discharge heat pumps as part of a Sound and Space Constraint Solution for cramped or noise-sensitive locations, and its universal heat pumps as working with nearly any R-454B coil with a TXV, with minimal alterations. Refrigerant

R-454B, R-32 and Rheem's PlusOne Leak Detection

Rheem has named R-454B its primary refrigerant for new systems. Here is what that means for a homeowner.

  • R-454B in central systemsEvery Endeavor Line air conditioner in the table above lists R-454B. EPA's Technology Transitions table puts its global warming potential at 465, against 2,088 for R-410A.
  • R-32 in some ductless systemsRheem has said some products, such as mini splits, may use R-32 instead, which EPA lists at a GWP of 675. Both are A2L refrigerants, a lower-toxicity, lower-flammability class. See our mini split page.
  • PlusOne Refrigerant Detection SystemRheem's low-GWP models carry a patented detection system that is factory- or field-installed in the furnace coil or air handler and covers the complete system. It is part of why the indoor and outdoor equipment are quoted as a matched set.
  • Less refrigerant in the coilRheem says the 7mm condenser coil used on models such as the RA16AY and RA15AY reduces refrigerant requirements by up to 15 percent.
The limit is 700, not 750

A Rheem article from October 2023 says EPA would set a 750 GWP limit for air conditioning. EPA's final number for new residential and light commercial AC and heat pump systems is 700, and EPA's May 2026 rule still uses 700 while letting pre-2025 R-410A inventory be installed until supply runs out. Our refrigerant guide has the full timeline.

Warranty in Florida

How a Rheem Warranty Works in Florida

Rheem's national brochure marks its 10-year conditional parts and conditional unit replacement terms as registration required. Florida is different.

  • No registration needed in FloridaRheem's June 2024 Florida legislative update says registration is no longer required for Florida installations, and installs on or after July 1, 2024 receive the longest coverage offered on each model's Limited Parts Warranty. Florida Statute 559.957 bars conditioning any manufacturer warranty on registration.
  • Coverage stays with the houseRheem's Florida update ties warranty coverage to the property, not the homeowner. Florida Statute 559.956 transfers it to a buyer automatically on sales on or after July 1, 2024, with no transfer fee and no extension of the remaining term.
  • Older installs keep their termsRheem says products installed before July 1, 2024 keep the warranty they had: a 5-year warranty stays 5 years and a 10-year warranty stays 10.
  • Prestige unit replacementRheem lists the Prestige RA19AY with 10-year parts plus a 10-year conditional unit replacement. Ask for the warranty certificate for your exact model; Rheem's terms vary by product.
Know what you have

How to Read a Rheem Model Number Before You Call

Knowing your model saves a trip and tells you which refrigerant your system uses.

Find the nameplate

It is the metal or vinyl label on the outdoor unit's side panel. EPA notes most air conditioners have a nameplate that identifies the refrigerant.

Check the first letters

In Rheem's current Endeavor documents, RA models are air conditioners, and RP and RD models are heat pumps.

Look for AY

Rheem labels its AY models (RA19AY, RA16AY, RP17AY and others) as Low GWP, the R-454B generation.

Text us a photo

Send a clear photo of the nameplate to (561) 210-7605. We will tell you what you have and what it means for repair parts and refrigerant.

Brand choice

Rheem or American Standard for Your Boca Raton Home

Both brands moved new central systems to R-454B and both build leak detection into those systems, so refrigerant is not the deciding factor. The differences are at the edges. American Standard's Platinum 20 tops out higher on paper at up to 23.6 SEER2. Rheem's lineup gives more choice in the middle, including side-discharge heat pumps for tight side yards and a single-stage RA15AY with a 13 EER2 peak rating.

Controls differ too: Rheem's Prestige models run on EcoNet, while American Standard's variable-speed models use AccuLink. If you already own one ecosystem's thermostat, staying in it is simpler. Compare the two on our American Standard page, and judge any quote on the matched rating, the load calculation, and the installer's license, not the logo.

Before you sign

What to Ask Before You Buy a Rheem System

  • Which Endeavor series and exact model is quoted, and is it an AY (low-GWP) unit or remaining R-410A inventory?
  • What is the AHRI-matched SEER2 and EER2 with the indoor coil or air handler in the quote?
  • Where will the PlusOne Refrigerant Detection System be installed, and how is it tested at startup?
  • Does a side-discharge model make sense for where the condenser sits?
  • Is the contractor a current Rheem Pro Partner, and what Florida license number is on the permit?
  • Which warranty terms come from Rheem, and what labor coverage, if any, comes from the installer?

FAQ

Rheem Questions From Boca Raton Homeowners

Direct CoolingFL Certified AC Contractor CAC1819111 Dispatch 24/7

Hi, this is Direct Cooling. Tap a question below for a straight answer.

Tap a question to ask

Do I need to register my Rheem AC in Florida?
No. Rheem's own Florida update says registration is no longer required for Florida installations as of July 1, 2024, and Florida Statute 559.957 says a manufacturer warranty may not be conditioned on registration. Keep your invoice with the model and serial numbers.
What happens to the warranty on a Rheem system installed before July 1, 2024?
Rheem says it keeps its original terms. In Rheem's Florida update, a system that had a 5-year warranty stays at 5 years and one with 10 years stays at 10, and those warranties apply to the property for the length of the coverage, not to the person who bought it. Systems installed on or after July 1, 2024 get the longest coverage offered on that model.
Do you service Rheem systems you did not install?
Yes. We repair and maintain Rheem equipment whoever installed it, along with other brands. For warranty parts, the claim runs through the servicing contractor, so have the model and serial numbers from the nameplate ready.
Can my older Rheem R-410A system still be repaired?
Yes. EPA states existing R-410A systems can be repaired for their useful life, including major components like a condensing unit or compressor. EPA also notes HFC supply may lessen over time as the phasedown continues, which is worth weighing on an older system with a leak.
