The dealer program

What an American Standard Customer Care Dealer Is

A Customer Care Dealer is an independent contractor that American Standard lists in its dealer program and describes as committed to installation quality, service, customer satisfaction and employee training. American Standard says the program is made up of hand-picked dealers who support a homeowner from the first meeting through installation and follow-up. Direct Cooling holds that listing for Boca Raton.

The listing is public, so you can check it yourself. American Standard's dealer page for Direct Cooling (read October 6, 2026) shows the Customer Care Dealer designation, 24/7 emergency service, and a service area covering ZIP codes 33428, 33431, 33432, 33433, 33434, 33486, 33487, 33496 and 33498. That is west Boca, the Boca Raton city core and the coastal ZIPs, served from our office at 10058 Spanish Isles Blvd in Boca Commerce Park.

The dealer program sits on top of a state license, not in place of one. Direct Cooling LLC is a Florida certified air conditioning contractor, license CAC1819111, active through August 31, 2028 on the DBPR register. That license matters to your warranty too: Florida Statute 559.957 ties the start of the full manufacturer warranty to installation by a contractor licensed under Chapter 489. Frank Rey founded the company in 2017 after more than 20 years in HVAC and still trains every technician, so the person who quotes your American Standard system and the people who install it are working from the same playbook.

Air conditioner lineup

American Standard Air Conditioners Compared: Platinum, Gold and Silver

These are the American Standard central air conditioners we quote most in Boca Raton, with the manufacturer's own figures. SEER2 measures efficiency across a cooling season; EER2 measures it at a 95°F outdoor temperature, which is the number that matters on a July afternoon in Palm Beach County.

Figures from American Standard's Best Air Conditioners article (June 2025) and its R-454B lineup announcement (January 2025). American Standard's own pages list the Gold 17 at up to 12.5 EER2 in one article and 13 in another; the matched AHRI rating on your quote is the number that counts. American Standard states the 10 and 12-year compressor terms with registration; Florida law on registration is explained below.

Choosing a line

Which American Standard Line Fits a Boca Raton Home

If your current system is 15 years old or older, runs most of the year, and the house feels clammy even when the thermostat says 78, the line you choose matters more for humidity than for the number on the box. Single-stage units like the Silver 14 run at full speed and shut off. Multi-speed and variable-speed units like the Gold 17 and the AccuComfort Platinum models run longer at lower speeds, which gives the indoor coil more time to pull moisture out of the air.

The Silver 14 is rated up to 14.3 SEER2, which is the federal minimum for a split air conditioner under 45,000 Btu/h installed in the Southeast region since January 1, 2023 (U.S. Department of Energy). It is the honest budget choice: it meets the Florida floor and nothing more. The Gold 17 adds up to six compressor speeds and runs on standard 24-volt two-stage thermostat wiring, so it does not need American Standard's communicating controls. The Platinum 20 is American Standard's most efficient air conditioner at up to 23.6 SEER2 and 14 EER2, with communicating AccuLink controls and capacity that varies from 30 to 100 percent.

Noise is a real factor in Boca Raton, where condensers often sit beside a pool deck, a screened patio, or a neighbor's bedroom window in a zero-lot-line community. American Standard publishes sound ranges of 64 to 76 dBA for the Platinum 20, 72 to 74 for the Gold 17 and 71 to 73 for the Silver 14. The variable-speed unit spends most of its hours at the quiet end of its range.

Size comes before line. American Standard's own product team says to beware of dealers who skip load calculations and simply replace a system with the same size it had, and its FAQ says the cooling unit should be no more than 15 percent over the Btu load a Manual J calculation finds. An oversized Platinum 20 short-cycles and loses the humidity advantage you paid for. Ask any dealer, us included, to show you the load calculation before you compare prices.

Heat pumps

American Standard Heat Pumps for South Florida

A heat pump is an air conditioner that can also run in reverse for the few cool nights Boca Raton gets. American Standard rates its heat pumps on HSPF2 for heating as well as SEER2 for cooling. The Southeast federal minimum for a split heat pump is 14.3 SEER2 and 7.5 HSPF2 (DOE).

R-454B in New American Standard Systems

Every new model in the American Standard lineup announced in January 2025 uses R-454B, which replaced R-410A in new residential equipment.

  • Lower global warming potentialEPA's Technology Transitions reference table lists R-454B at a GWP of 465 and R-410A at 2,088. New residential split systems must use a refrigerant under EPA's limit of 700, except pre-2025 R-410A inventory, which EPA's May 2026 rule lets contractors install until supply runs out.
  • A2L safety classR-454B is classified A2L: lower toxicity and lower flammability, with a maximum burning velocity of 10 cm/s or less under ASHRAE Standard 34. EPA approves it only in new equipment built to UL 60335-2-40, never as a retrofit into an R-410A system.
  • Leak detection built inAmerican Standard says its new R-454B lineup includes a Refrigerant Detection System that uses leak detection technology. On install day that system has to be wired and commissioned with the indoor unit, which is one reason a matched indoor coil or air handler is part of every quote.
  • Service for older systemsAmerican Standard says it continues to service systems that use earlier refrigerants, and EPA confirms an existing R-410A system can be repaired for its useful life. Our refrigerant guide covers repair versus replacement in detail.
Florida warranty law overrides the registration fine print

American Standard's national warranty page says its registration and transfer rules vary by state. In Florida, Statute 559.957 makes the full manufacturer warranty effective on the installation date when a Chapter 489 licensed contractor installs it, and says the warranty may not be conditioned on product registration. Statute 559.956 transfers the manufacturer warranty to the buyer automatically when a home sells on or after July 1, 2024, with no transfer fee allowed. Registering is still worth doing because it puts your serial numbers on file with American Standard.

Warranty in plain terms

What an American Standard Warranty Covers in Florida

Manufacturer warranties cover parts that fail from a manufacturing defect. Here is how the pieces fit for a Boca Raton homeowner.

  • Parts, not laborAmerican Standard's Base and Registered Limited Warranties cover the cost of a failed covered part. American Standard states that labor is not included unless you buy an Optional Extended Warranty.
  • Length of coverageAmerican Standard describes its registered limited warranty as typically 10 years on parts, and its Platinum 20 air conditioner and heat pump carry a 12-year limited compressor warranty. Florida Statute 559.957 makes the full term run from installation by a licensed contractor.
  • Selling your homeUnder Florida Statute 559.956 the warranty transfers to the buyer automatically and continues as if the buyer were the original purchaser. The transfer does not extend the remaining term.
  • How a claim worksAmerican Standard's process runs through the dealer: we diagnose the failure, the claim goes to the parts supplier, and the covered part ships to us for the repair. Keep your invoice; it lists every serial number.

Questions to Ask About Any American Standard Quote

Bring these to us or to any dealer. A good quote answers every one in writing.

  • What did the Manual J load calculation find, and how does the quoted tonnage compare with it?
  • What is the AHRI-matched SEER2 and EER2 for this exact outdoor unit and indoor coil or air handler pairing?
  • Is the indoor equipment new and matched for R-454B, and how will the Refrigerant Detection System be wired and tested?
  • Will the existing refrigerant line set be inspected and reused, or replaced, and why?
  • If the quote is for remaining R-410A inventory, what does that mean for future refrigerant service?
  • Which parts of the warranty are manufacturer coverage, and what labor coverage, if any, comes from the installer?
  • Who pulls the permit, and when is the final inspection scheduled?
Why it matters here

Owning an American Standard System in Palm Beach County

Long cooling season

Palm Beach County is in Climate Zone 1A under the Florida Building Code, so the AC carries the house most of the year. Efficiency differences that look small on paper add up over that many run hours.

Humidity control

Multi-speed and variable-speed lines run longer at low speed, which pulls more moisture from the air. That is the main comfort difference between the Silver and Platinum lines in a humid climate.

Licensed install

Florida's warranty statute keys on installation by a Chapter 489 licensed contractor. Our license is CAC1819111.

Ongoing care

American Standard systems need the same coil cleaning, drain care and electrical checks as any brand. Our membership includes two tune-ups a year.

American Standard Questions From Boca Raton Homeowners

Direct CoolingFL Certified AC Contractor CAC1819111 Dispatch 24/7

Hi, this is Direct Cooling. Tap a question below for a straight answer.

Tap a question to ask

Do I need to register my American Standard system within 60 days in Florida?
No. Florida Statute 559.957 says a manufacturer warranty on an HVAC system installed by a licensed contractor is effective in full on the installation date and may not be conditioned on registration. Registration is still worth doing because it puts your serial numbers on file with American Standard, which speeds up a later claim.
Will my American Standard warranty transfer if I sell my Boca Raton home?
Yes, for sales on or after July 1, 2024. Florida Statute 559.956 transfers the manufacturer warranty to the buyer automatically, continues it as if the buyer bought the system, and bars the warrantor from charging a transfer fee. The remaining term does not get longer.
Do you service American Standard systems you did not install?
Yes. We repair and maintain American Standard equipment whoever installed it, and we work on other brands too. If the system is still under warranty, the claim runs through the servicing dealer, so keep your installation invoice and serial numbers handy.
Can I still buy an American Standard R-410A air conditioner?
Only from remaining inventory built or imported before January 1, 2025. EPA's May 2026 rule lets that inventory be installed until supply runs out, but American Standard's current lineup is R-454B. We will tell you which one a quote uses and what it means for future service.
